TaRL Delivery Model
1. Remedial Reading Program
Kiswahili and maths TaRL classes were delivered by the Ministry of Education. Government teachers implemented TaRL classes in grades 2 and 3 for one hour daily. Quality Assurance and Standards officers (QASO’s) provided support and coaching to the teachers and assistant teachers.
2. Pamoja Twasoma
GRIC is implementing the Pamoja Twasoma project in Kajiado County. Reading (in Maa and English) and maths TaRL classes are delivered by government teachers and youth facilitators to children in grade 3 to 5 before and after school for a period of 60 days. GRIC uses the Learning from Familiar to Formal (L2F2) approach to build children’s reading skills in Maa and English.
