Zanzibar

Zanzibar, in collaboration with UNICEF, TaRL Africa, together with the local partner, Aga Khan Foundation (AKF),  is providing technical support to the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MoEVT) for the introduction and operationalization of a pilot program. The pilot seeks to implement and integrate the TaRL approach into Zanzibar’s education system, offering essential remedial support to primary students and helping them develop strong foundational literacy and numeracy skills. To date, necessary materials have been developed, and 20 Master Trainers have been capacitated for them to further train 252 teachers in December 2024.

TaRL Delivery Model

TaRL Africa is providing technical support in the implementation of TaRL in Zanzibar’s North B (Kazkazini B) district. The pilot will be conducted in 25 government schools within the district, targeting children in grades 3 to 6. The pilot will focus on numeracy and Language (English and Kiswahili) skills. The language of instruction will be in Kiswahili.
